Upscaling

Upscaling increases the resolution of an image, making it larger while keeping it sharp. Unlike simply resizing a picture, which just stretches existing pixels and looks blurry, an AI upscaler reconstructs fine detail such as skin texture, fabric or hair, producing a result that looks natively high resolution.

It is typically used as a final step to prepare an image for printing, wallpapers, or any use where more detail and size are needed.

In tendre.red, the Upscale (x2) tab doubles an existing image's resolution locally on your GPU using RealESRGAN, no license required. It is a separate step from the "High (2K)" option offered at the end of a fresh generation, which upscales automatically as part of that same render.
