Mask tool: place an element behind a subject

The Mask tool cuts away part of an imported element so it disappears behind a person or object already in the image, instead of sitting flatly on top of everything. This is what makes a composite read as natural rather than pasted on.

1. Add the element as a layer

Place the logo, object, or PNG on the image and position it with the Move tool, the same way as in Integrate an element.

2. Paint over what should hide it

Switch to the Mask tool (shown in blue) and paint over the part of the element that a hand, an arm, or an object in front of it should cover. That area is cut from the element immediately, so you see the result as you paint. The Eraser undoes a stroke without leaving a permanent cut, and switching back to the Brush restores mask area to regenerate.

3. Or use automatic confinement

Instead of painting by hand, you can turn on "Confine to the person under the element": the app finds the subject in front of the element on its own and keeps it in the foreground. Use "Show the mask" to preview what will be kept before you run anything.

4. Blend and check the result

Run the integration so the element's material settles into the scene now that the depth is right. Look closely at the edge where the element meets the subject; it should read as one passing behind the other. Touch up the edge with Inpainting if it needs cleaning.
